Remembered for his service in both the French and Indian War and the American Revolutionary War, this eighteenth-century military man also fought victoriously for the Colony of Virginia in Lord Dunmore's War, a 1774 conflict with the Mingo and Shawnee Native American tribes.During the 1770s, he served in the Virginia House of Burgesses.In 1775, George Washington recommended Lewis for the position of Brigadier General in the Continental Army.
