Deployed as a centre forward, Austin currently plays for Queens Park Rangers. He has previously represented Poole Town, Swindon Town after being released by Reading. After scoring 58 goals in 113 matches in the Football League Championship for Burnley and QPR, Austin made his debut in the Premier League during the 2014-15 season, scoring 18 goals for relegated QPR and receiving a call-up for the England national team.
