Choe Nam-seon

South Korean former historian Choe Nam-seon is remembered for being the leader of the Korean independence movement- a military and diplomatic campaign to achieve the independence ofKorea from Japan. Besides being a historian, he also worked as a pioneering poet and publisher as well as a professor at the Manchukuo Jianguo University.

Choe Nam-seon was born into a middle-class family. From early days of childhood, he got education in Seoul, but at the age of 14, he moved to Japan to attend Waseda University. After returning from Japan, he was determined to devote himself to Korean modernization. Therefore, he worked in the Patriotic Enlightenment Movement group and published magazines, articles in order to raise the modern knowledge of Korean youth.
