Corazon Aquino

Corazon Aquino was the 11th president (1986–1992), also known as the first female political leader, of the Philippines who restored democratic rule in that country after the long dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos. For her great dedication, she was ranked as one of Time Magazine's 20 Most Influential Asians of the 20th Century (1999) and received numerous awards, typically David Rockefeller Bridging Leadership Awards (2005), Martin Luther King, Jr. Nonviolent Peace Prize and EWC Asia Pacific Community Building Award. 

She studied school in Manila until the age of 13 and then graduated from the College of Mount St. Vincent in New York in 1953, with a bachelor's degree in both French and mathematics. In 1972, due to martial law under Marcos' administration, his husband, Benigno Aquino, the key opposition leader was arrested for seven year. During this time, she played the role of the supportive wife and served as the bridge between Benigno and the outside world, keeping his profile alive and passing his notes on to the press.

In 1954, she got married to Benigno Aquino, Jr, an ambitious journalist, with five children, including Maria Elena (born August 18, 1955), Aurora Corazon (born December 27, 1957), Benigno Simeon III (born February 8, 1960), Victoria Elisa (born October 27, 1961) and Kristina Bernadette (born February 14, 1971).
