Considered as Filipino King of Comedy, Rodolfo Vera Quizon, Sr., who is better known by his stage name Dolphy, was a talented comedian-actor. He came to fame after taking a role in series Jack en Jill by Mars Ravelo in 1954. While appearing as a presenter on TV shows, he also began making films for independent studios like Filipinas Productions, LEA Productions or Zultana Productions and played the leading roles in his movies Captain Barbell and Daigdig ng Fantasia in 1964. Born in Manila, Philippines, he was the son of Melencio Espinosa Quizon, Sr. and Salud de la Rosa Vera. When he was small, he sold peanuts and watermelon seeds at a cinema, which allowed him to watch film without charge. He did various jobs to earn his living during World War II, including polishing shoes, classifying bottles, selling, driving kalesas, ect.
