Some of his earliest works include the musical Sacrimmoralinority and Superbia, the latter of which was initially intended to be an adaptation of George Orwell's 1984, but Orwell denied him the rights.

Born in White Plains, New York, he died the morning of Rent's preview performance off-Broadway unexpectedly.
