A Thai physician, professor of medicine, and politician Krasae Chanawongse is best known as an advisor to the Prime Minister of Thailand and former Minister of University Affairs and former Minister of Foreign Affairs. More notably, he was considered as a "strong monarchist" by the New York Times in 2010. Throughout his professional and political career, he has earned many awards such as a Ramon Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership in 1973 and a Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun from Japan.
BEFORE FAMEAs the sixth of eight children, Krasae Chanawongse was born in a poor family of Chinese Thai descent. He searved as an apprentice without pay in a shop near his home selling forest products and a delivery boy when he was in high school before graduating from Chulalongkorn University. he became a physician in Phon from 1960 to 1973 and the director of the ASEAN Institute for Health Development in Bangkok. He was appointed Member of Parliament representing Khon Kaen in 1975 and 1976.
