Swing and jazz trumpeter and bandleader. He formed the Les & Larry Elgart Ensemble with his brother, Larry, and released nearly thirty recordings between 1954 and 1968.He toured with jazz guitarist Ralph Patt.His popular "Bandstand Boogie" became the theme song for Dick Clark's American Bandstand program.
BEFORE FAMEHe began his career as a professional trumpeter by playing for bandleaders Charlie Spivak, Raymond Scott, and Harry James.
PERSONAL LIFEHe and his younger brother, Larry Elgart, grew up in Connecticut. Les Elgart died in Texas at the age of seventy-seven.
