Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician and philanthropist  who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was South Africa's first black chief executive, and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. Mandela served as President of the African National Congress party from 1991 to 1997 and Secretary General of the Non-Aligned Movement from 1998 to 1999. He gained international acclaim, received more than 250 honours, was held in deep respect within South Africa and is often described as the Father of the Nation.

Mandela was born to the Thembu royal family, attended Fort Hare University and the University of Witwatersrand majoring in law. He used to work as a lawyer and serve 27 years in prison.

Mandela was married three times, fathered six children, had 17 grandchildren. His wives were Evelyn Ntoko Mase, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela and Graca Mache respectively.
