Famous for his work in the salsa music genre, this Venezuelan bassist and songwriter is perhaps most well known for "Lloraras," a song he recorded with his band La Dimension Latina. He is also famous for his rendition of "Juanita Morell," recorded with the members of his La Salsa Mayor group.He frequently worked on behalf of the Operation Smile charity.He and his Puerto Rican contemporary Hector Lavoe both specialized in salsa music.

While building his career as a musician, he held side jobs as a mechanic and cab driver.

He was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. His marriage produced several musically-inclined children, including sons Yorman and Jimmy and daughters Irosca and Adiaroz.
