Richard Manuel

Famous as a singer and keyboardist for the Canadian roots music group The Band, he is also remembered for his work with Bob Dylan's one-time backup band, The Hawks.Tragically, suffering from alcoholism and drug addiction, he committed suicide in his early forties.He appeared with Tommy Lee Jones in the 1970 independent film Eliza's Horoscope.

He started playing the piano at the age of nine and later trained briefly at the Ontario Conservatory of Music. In his mid-teens, he formed a band called The Revols.

The child of a teacher and an automotive mechanic, he spent his childhood in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. His first marriage, to model Jane Kristiansen, resulted in two sons; he later married a woman named Arlie.
