To Huu whose real name was Nguyen Kim Thanh (October 4, 1920 - December 9, 2002), was a representative poet of Vietnam's revolutionary line of poetry. He held important positions in Vietnamese political system as Member of the Politburo and Secretary of the Party Central Committee and the First Deputy Chairman of Council of Ministers of Socialist Republic of Vietnam. He was most famous for the poetry volumes Tu Ay (Since then - 1946), Viet Bac (1954), Gio Long (Rising Wind - 1961), Ra Tran (Going into battle - 1971), Mau va Hoa (Blood and Flowers - 1977), Mot Tieng Don (A guitar sound - 1992) and Ta voi Ta (Me with Me - 1999). He is a poet of communist ideal and his poems represent for the tendency of polotical lyricism.BEFORE FAME
When he was 9 years old, he and his father moved to Thua Thien Hue province. His father was a poor scholar struggling to make a living. His mother was the daughter of a scholar, hence she knew by heart many folk songs. Parents had contributed to nourish the poetic soul of To Huu. His mother died when he was 12. At the age of 13, he entered National School in Huế and had a chance to access to communist ideals through the thought of Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, Maxim Gorky,...He became a key leader of the Democratic Youth Union in Hue and was admitted to the Communist Party in 1938. When the August Revolution broke out, he was the chairman of Insurrection Commitee of Huế.PERSONAL LIFE
His wife was Nguyen Thi Thanh, former Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department. The love of two people was praised as a beautiful love affair and she wrote a memoir about it titled "Ký ức người ở lại" (Memories of person who remained behind) .  She died in 2012.
