Yoko Ono

Japanese multimedia artist Yoko Ono became well-known in the world for both her work in avant-garde art, music, and filmmaking, and her marriage to Beatles front man John Lennon. As an artist, she earned popularity when cooperating with American jazz musician/film producer Anthony Cox in interactive conceptual events in early 1960s. As John Lennon's wife, the collaboration of the couple in their Bed-Ins for Peace  in Amsterdam and Montreal gained them more fame in 1969. For her contribution in arts, she was honored by a Golden Lion Award for lifetime achievement from the Venice Biennale in 2009 and  the 2012 Oskar Kokoschka Prize, Austria's highest award for applied contemporary art.

Before 1940, she attended the elite Peers School in Tokyo. At the age of 18, she moved with her parents to Scarsdale, New York where she entered Sarah Lawrence College but dropped out of school to run off with her first husband, Toshi Ichiyanagi.

She had experienced four marriages in her life. She was the wife of composer Toshi Ichiyanagi during period 1956 - 1962. Her second marriage to American jazz musician, film producer, and art promoter Anthony Cox in 1962 was annulled on March 1, 1963, however, they wed again on June 6 of the same year and had a daughter Kyoko Chan Cox (born August 8, 1963). After divorcing Anthony Cox in February 1969, she got married to John Lennon of the English rock band the Beatles in the next month and gave birth to their son named Sean Lennon (born October 9, 1975).
